Fire Island Dance Festival (Dancers Responding to AIDS)

When Caleb Teicher calls, you answer! Caleb has been a great friend of ours for many years and it was truly an honor for Brian to be asked to perform with him in an excerpt of his work “Meet Ella”. The duet is traditionally performed by another great friend of ours, Nathan Bugh, who also collaborated with Caleb on the making of the choreography.   With Nathan being unavailable, Brian was eager to step in and perform the work–which has masterfully crafted a new dance style calling to vernacular jazz and Lindy Hop figures of the 1930’s and drawing on modern interpretations today.

More than the work itself, Dancers Responding to AIDS is an incredible program we are thrilled to support. About the program, as listed on their website:

Dancers Responding to AIDS, founded in 1991 by former Paul Taylor Dance Company members Denise Roberts Hurlin and Hernando Cortez, is a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, one of the nation’s leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. By drawing upon the talents, resources and generosity of the American theatre and dance communities, since 1988 Broadway Cares has raised more than $285 million for essential services for people with AIDS and other critical illnesses across the United States.
