The Jazz Age Lawn Party is by far one of the best and most unique events New York City has to offer. For many years now we’ve been performing with this event on Governors Island with Roddy Caravella and His Canarsie Wobblers performing authentic 1920’s partnered dances. The costuming is all provided from the closets of Roddy and his wife Gretchen Fenston, and the rest is perfectly designed, created, and tailored by Gretchen herself!
The late New York Times Fashion Photographer Bill Cunningham was a great supporter and friend of the Lawn Party, and the many folks who contributed to its success. They honored Bill each day with a vocal performance by Gregory Moore. Gretchen created brand new blue dresses to perform in to honor Bill and his favorite royal blue French workmen’s jacket that he donned every day.
This weekend was surely a scorcher, but the heat couldn’t weigh us down from having the most wonderful days traveling back in time with great friends!
